When approaching challenging issues in GIS technology, such as how a technology may be used maliciously in the future, there are many pitfalls. The use of certain words evokes strong reactions and images, obscuring the concepts and key points.

The content on this web site is intended to discuss modern slavery and human tracking and how it relates to GIS. It seeks to identify key ethical elements surrounding human tracking, and to examine the issues and players. The web site is broken into four main sections:

  1. A response to the Dobson and Fisher article.
  2. What is needed in GIS in order to make it more ethical with respect to human tracking?
  3. Modern slavery & human trafficking facts.
  4. Solving the ethical dilemmas of human tracking and monitoring.
